CCBA Legislative Day 2017
Thank you for attending the Conference of California Bar Associations Legislative Day which was held on Monday, March 27, 2017 in Sacramento. We had 55 representatives participate from Bar Associations throughout the state.
This year we were pleased to offer CLE credit through a program entitled “A Winning Resolution: Enacting Legislation Through the CCBA.” The program was given by Larry Doyle and Andi Liebenbaum and provided valuable insight on what makes a successful resolution.
Legislative Day was a chance for delegates to meet with members of the State Assembly and the State Senate to persuade them to sponsor or support resolutions that the Conference has passed and which we are trying to enact in law. This year we discussed our ambitious 33 resolutions now before the legislature. The day was spent with our lobbyist, Larry Doyle, and in meetings with legislators to discuss our resolutions and to ask for support.
Certainly the highlight of the day was the “State of the Judiciary” Address given by Chief Justice, Tani Cantil-Sakauye in the chamber of the California State Assembly. CCBA delegates joined members of the legislature, the judiciary, and other dignitaries in the Assembly Chamber for the address.
At the conclusion of the Chief’s address, members of the legislature and staff, as well as members of the judiciary were invited to a reception co-sponsored by the CCBA in the foyer of the Stanley Mosk Library and Courts Building adjacent to the capitol.
Again, thank you to those that participated, and if you did not, we hope to include you in next year’s program!
