Jim Pfeiffer Awards Dinner – May 8, 2008

Plans for the 2008 Jim Pfeiffer Awards Dinner are progressing nicely. We will be presenting the 2008 Jim Pfeiffer Award to the incomparable Joanne M. Garvey. We will also be giving our Legislator of the Year Award to Darrell Steinberg, President Pro Tem-elect of the California State Senate.

The place to be on May 8, 2008 is the San Francisco Marriott, 55 Fourth Street, in San Francisco. 6:00 reception, 7:00 dinner. Just make your plans NOW. Be a dinner sponsor. Order your dinner ticket. You can get all the details here. You do not want to miss out.

There is still time to be included on our honorary dinner committee. If you are interested but haven’t had a chance to let us know, do so now by calling the CCBA offices (415-379-3743) or e-mailing our Executive Director at

Resolution Submissions

In other news, by popular demand, this year we changed the deadline for resolution submissions from the beginning of February to the beginning of March. While the deadline isn’t until March 7, 2008, some of you have already been thinking ahead and have submitted your resolutions (Thank you!). If you still have more ideas, there is still time. Remember March 7, 2008 is the submission deadline. If you have questions or concerns about formatting, check the Guide for Proponents and the Rules.

Do you have an idea but need some help putting it into a resolution? Do you have the expertise to help those who need some additional help? The place to look and to post for assistance is the newly created CCBA Google Group. Did you miss your invitation to join the group? Just send an e-mail to and we will get you a membership in the group.

We’ll be using the Google Group as another way to communicate with our constituents. Proposed rule changes will be posted there. Links to Conference Registration will be posted there. Invitations to join committees and other pieces of information which request responses will be included on the Google Group. So if you’re interested in getting early announcements or having your voice heard on the group, join.

Of course, we’ll still be sending these periodic e-news!

District Development Committees

For those of you in the following listed areas of the State, now is the time to form your District Development Committees to assist the CCBA in nominating Board members to be sworn in at the 2008 Conference. We’re looking for representatives from Sacramento and surrounding counties, San Francisco/Marin, Contra Costa-Oakland-San Mateo-Santa Clara, and Los Angeles. We’re also looking for an Ethnic Minority North representative. Information about the process can be found here.

Is your organization new to CCBA? Is it time for your organization to send updated information about the organization. The CCBA certification form can be found here. We need this information to be sure you get all the news that’s fit to print and we can properly allocate delegates.
