2009 Conference of Delegates

Name, Site and Contact Change

As we told you in our May 27, 2009 issue, we are in the process of changing our name. We have now migrated to our new site, For the time being, our old site will forward to the new. Please update your contact information for the CCBA (Conference of California Bar Associations) Executive Director to While our name is changing, our purpose remains the same and we will still be holding the annual Conference of Delegates.

Conference Schedule

The 75th Annual Conference of Delegates will convene at the San Diego Bayfront Hotel on Friday, September 11, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Shortly before 4:00 p.m. we will adjourn to an MCLE session, Terrorism, Torture and Ethics, which will run from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. and is sponsored by Karpman & Associates. The Conference will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2009. We will have a very short break (anticipated 15–20 minutes) for CCBA Officers and incoming Directors swearing-in and the annual State of the Conference address by our 2010 Chair, Lilys McCoy.

On Saturday, shortly before 3:30 p.m., we will adjourn for a 2 hour MCLE program, Bias In California After Proposition 8, sponsored by the San Diego County Bar Association. The Conference will resume at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2009 and will run until we conclude that day.

On Friday, September 11, 2009, starting at 8:30 p.m., we will celebrate our 75th Anniversary with a Wine, Cheese and Chocolate reception. More details on all these events can be found on our website at

In addition to the Conference of Delegates, on Thursday, September 10, 2009, California Women Lawyer’s will hold its annual dinner at the San Diego Bayfront Hilton. Please go to for dinner ticket purchase information.

Registration Options

  • The Whole Works (Conference, both MCLE sessions and 1 ticket to Gala): $300 (increases to $350 2 weeks before event)
  • Conference Only - Delegate: $195 (increases to $250 two weeks before event)
  • Conference Only - Bar Association Staff: $75 (increases to $100 two weeks before event)
  • MCLE Programs (two 2-hour programs), $50/program, $100 for both (increases to $70/$140 two weeks before event)
  • 75th Anniversary Gala Event (Friday, September 11, 2009 at 8:30 p.m.): $75 (increases to $100 two weeks before event)

Please keep in mind that registration for the State Bar Annual Meeting and the Conference are completely separate. Registering for the State Bar Annual Meeting will not gain you admittance to the Conference. Your Conference registration will allow you admission to the State Bar exhibitor hall only. If you register for The Whole Works Conference package, you will receive 4 hours MCLE credit plus Conference admission and a ticket to our 75th Anniversary Gala.

Resolution Posting & Miscellaneous Housekeeping

Resolutions Committee recommendations have been posted at We expect to be right on schedule with a July 15 posting of resolutions in their final forms at We’ll be sending emails to Delegation Chairs and Staff with information about filing call-ups, spreadsheet positions, posting of proposed amendments and other matters related to Conference operations.
